Watch this 1000 metric ton mobile boat lift move a 1000 ton boat at Colonna’s Shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia. The lift is the 1000C Marine Travelift, and the boat is the M/V Spirit of Norfolk.
I filmed this in January 2016 when the Spirit of Norfolk was hauled out for her biennial yard period. During this time, she underwent routine maintenance, and the Coast Guard inspected her hull and shafts. She was also undergoing a $1.2 million renovation.
Unfortunately, the Spirit of Norfolk caught fire in June 2022 and was declared a total loss. (No lives were lost.) But her memory lives on.
