Guess what! I’m building a museum! Well, not an actual museum, but a video game that takes place at a museum. In this game, you’re a secret agent assigned to investigate suspicious activity at the museum complex. As one of the basic mechanics, you have to be stealthy and sneak past guards and find artifacts. But there’s more to this museum than meets the eye. I won’t go into too much detail yet, but let’s just say that some of the artifacts you find are…well…cursed. I’m sure you can imagine what that means.
Now that you get the idea, let me show you the progress I have made over the past month. This is my first game, and I am making it in unreal engine. So far, I have been having fun, but there’s definitely a huge learning curve. I will be sharing my progress as I go, but I expect this will be a long haul, since (again) this is my first game, and it is a bit more complicated.
In the meantime, here’s are some highlights from my progress and pitfalls. I got some really cool assets and blueprints from the Unreal Marketplace and have slapped them together into this semi-open world island. As you can see, everything is very much under construction, so it’s still kinda ugly, but I really enjoy level building. On top of that, many of these assets were free, which is awesome. The showpieces here are the museum assets, the stealth system, and the ultra dynamic sky. These were not free, but they have been worth every penny and are the building blocks of my game.

That said, everything you see here is subject to change because, with all of these assets, I have been running into major performance issues. You can see how bad the frame rate is here, even with my RTX 2070 GPU. What good is a game if it breaks your PC?
I was also having some serious issues with AI, but the stealth system has helped move me in the right direction. Using the system’s blueprints, I can make the enemies stand still, patrol, or randomly roam. I had attempted to do this myself, but it was, uh, pretty difficult.

Anyways, I am pretty excited for it, and you know, I really want to make this game really fun and exciting. Like I said, I will fill you guys in with more details as I move along. I’ll also go a little bit more into detail about what I’ve been adding to the game and the mechanics and a bit of the level design without giving away too many spoilers.
